TO BE PREGNANT

POST BABY BODY REGIME: WEEK ONE

As I started writing about this week post baby plan to get back in shape and also about challenges of new parents, my little one started screaming so I dropped everything and deleted this post accidentantly. This happens all the times.

Olly is one month old- she is doing great but won't really sleep much due to gas in her stomach. The other day she fell asleep at 6AM- imagine my face by then- she was awake again at 8AM. My husband told me: 'you finally have bags under your eyes' - I usually don't suffer from baggy eyes until becoming a parent!!! For this reason I bought a new product at Target from Pixi. It is a beauty line I have been wanting to try but it is kind of expensive compared to Neutrogena or other brands like in that price range. I don't like to spend too much money on new products I don't really know. That is why I love samples. I was lucky because the Crayon Combo pencil was on sale-

It is amazing. One side is a typical concealer to help reduce discoloration under your eyes. But it is better than concealers because it is not heavy and it is very smooth and natural. Also the color matches perfectly with my skin color, which is usually rare. I have a really hard problem finding concealers for my skin tone. They are never too light.
The other side has a shimmering/highlighting effect which is great to place be the corner of your eyes and nose to get that effect of fresh and awaken. It works! This product will definitely make it to my favorite beauty items for new moms!!!

For more tips on how to use this product check out the Pixi website. I love how they help you optimizing their products with tutorials.

Lunch at Food Glorious Food in Tallahassee- I highly recommend their gigantic Cobb salad- it was so fresh and if you are on a diet you will feel satisfied 100%.

One week review post baby plan: diet and fitness

Following a plan for diet and fitness has been quite impossible- everytime I take my mat out and sit on it, Olly will cry, poop, or we realize we need to get more diapers. Sunday I managed to go back to do hot yoga at Journeys in Yoga - it is my favorite place- I have been going there since it once opened. I still remember going with my parents and in-laws when it first opened - my dad could hardly breath because he has never experienced yoga before or moving his body in odd positions. It was so funny. They hated it- I loved it- even during pregnancy I kept going (doing intro or prenatal yoga) and I swear it made my delivery much much easier.

I must say that I thought I would not be able to do the entire hot class but I did- the only problem is that I wore pre-prego pants that really did not fit me: I could not even bend my legs - yeah I am dillusional about my body ok?

I also started using the Nike Training Club apps. It's an app that has a variety of work outs (abs, legs, lean, strength) for 3 levels (beginner, intermediate, advance). You can choose or even create a one week program including weight training, jogging, and yoga. The works out last between 15-45 minutes and they will kick your ass. This is great if you can't get to the gym. It allows you to build tone in the comfort of your home. Invest in some weights, a dumbbell ball, and a mat.

Pounds Lost so Far: 3 -

Last Trimester of Pregnancy: Week 36-40

Approaching the last trimester of pregnancy has been quite comforting but at the same time uncomfortable. How is that possible? 36-37 you still have energy to get the house organized, the baby room is done and you are excited your little one is about to come. By the 38 you just feel miserable. Your feet and ankles remind you of those of a dinosaur, your walk reminds me of a penguin, you roll in bed like a fish in no water, and you start forgetting where you put things around the house. You are also just done and eager to see the baby and you get frustrated whenever you visit your OB each week and there has not been any progress (e.g. belly dropped or dilated).

Second Trimester of Pregnancy: Week 24

Since my morning sicknesses have gone away beginning week 22 I felt great. I had energy, was in a great mood, etc. I decided to join the gym back just to do very light weight and only once or twice a week. Nothing major. I heard it is very beneficial to the baby and birth to be active, so I figured I would go back. Saturday, I had the brilliant idea to work out in the morning and then all day moving furniture (light), cleaning, organizing the entire house, you name it. I even went out to check out a new brewery and to hang out with friends.

The following night I woke up at 4AM having slept on the left side and exposing my back side to the a/c. [I do not like a/c] Results? I ended up at the hospital for an unsurreal lower back pain that caused me to puke and emit blood (from my nose) like an exorcist.

I have never ever felt such a pain. I initially thought I was in pre-labor, then I thought I had a kidney stone, but after all tests and a persistent pain after days my primary doctor confirmed: I had pulled the lower muscle so bad that my leg went numb and my back was just crying out loud. I did not know you could puke from a pulled muscle, neither I knew you could actually cry for the pain. I still can't believe I pulled a muscle. I feel like an old lady.

My doctor obviously knows me very well and while he was checking me out he asked me what I had done the previous days. He then told me to please stop lifting and doing anything around the house, like moving furniture. I guess, I thought I was invincible even with a baby growing in my belly. You hear so much about pregnant women working out or not changing their lifestyle. Well, I don't believe that at all. Look at me and I am quite an active person.

I did an ultrasound today just to make sure the baby is doing well since I have not heard much movement. Apparently, she changed position and that is why the movements changed too. But she is good. She is currently 1.9 pounds.

If you ever find yourself pregnant and puking with a lower pain go to the women's pavilion at the hospital. Then if they can't determine what you have go to your primary doctor and then request an ultrasound. I was in such a pain for days that I did all kind of visits. You get to be paranoid when you are pregnant because you worry for the baby. You certainly want to make sure your baby is safe.

I also refused to take any medications like muscle relaxer. At the hospital they had to give me pain killers and anti nausea remedies but I was in real bad shape and I was not really alert.

What to do with strain muscle during pregnancy

1. Call your doctor or go to the hospital to determine if the back in the pain is associated to your pregnancy, kidney stone, or pulled muscle.

2. If it is a pulled muscle visit your primary doctor who will determine diagnosis and treatment.

3. Rest: don't lift or bend.

4. Physical Therapy - I also got sciatica and could not lay down for the pain so I slept with my back straight against the sofa. Literally I was sitting. Well I didn't sleep for over one week from the pain and the position. The doctor suggested to do physical therapy. i have my first session next week, which really did not help the fact that I have been in pain for over one week.

5. Patience - You will learn about how to be patience and how to function with constant pain.

Good luck everyone, I am doing much better now.

TRAVELING WHEN PREGNANT

One of the questions I have been getting from my friends who yet need to be pregnant is whether I go crazy and have the so called emotional distress, or mood swings. The typical gender stereotype of pregnant women going psycho over silly things and the husband usually pays for it.

In regards to change in social behavior due to pregnancy I just participated in a study conducted by FSU where I had to fill in a questionnaire answering a variety of questions related to social changes with friends and family due to hormonal changes.

The answer is: not really until........ Overall, I have been very calm, the opposite of the histerical pregnancy moments. I am not stressed or overwhelmed. However, I did experience an emotional crisis when I was in San Francisco, in a public space, in front of an entire restaurant. Yep...

There is an explanation of course. Shawn and I had been walking for hours (at least 3 hours) climbing streets in San Francisco and ending up at the market by the docks. I really had a light breakfast and it was about 4PM. The plan was to visit this market with all kind of restaurants and seat. Well after going up and down we still have not picked a place. In the meantime Shawn had vanished trying to resolve some issues with his card, the Nespresso guy pinched us down for 30 minutes explaining in a velocity of light all the features of the new Nespresso machine, which we did not buy. Then we decided to go for an Oyster bar since Shawn loves them. While in line, we had 2 other couples behind us, we asked for a menu given that I could not have anything on the menu. The place was packed. We stepped out the line to check the menu and one couple passed in front  of us. Ok, no problem. Then the host looked at us and said ok, are you guys ready? I WAS, but Shawn said let these other people go first since we stepped out of the line. I LOST IT. At that point I could not feel my legs, I was tired, hungry and could not handle any more politeness. I just wanted to fucking sit down and eat. I pretty much must have turned red and had tears in my eyes and said something like why, we were eon line, I need to sit. I don't know what I said but everyone had a weird panic scared expression on their face. Within 5 seconds we were seated. I don't think Shawn realized that pregnant women cannot wait. When we said it's time. It's fucking time. There is no negotiation or rationality. I could not control my emotions. I am not a pain in the ass usually. I am really free bird, but since I am pregnant when I say I need to rest and eat, I need to do it. If not, I feel dizzy and about to pass out.

This was definitely the most emotional crisis during pregnancy. Consider also that I had flew from Florida to San Francisco on a Wed after delays. I attended a conference all day until Friday and walked hours on Saturday. I think I deserve some recognition.

The other moment where I almost passed out was at H&M. Determined to get two dresses I stood in line with screaming teenagers and no a/c. yep San Francisco does not use a/c. But I did get my dresses. Ah! And then we went to sit and eat.

The emotional distress caused by pregnancy. I think at that point I was laughing hysterically.
PS. The waitress behind me was pregnant too.

FASHION WHEN PREGNANT: WHERE AND HOW TO SHOP

It has been a very busy week so far. We have big upcoming projects at work and my dog Zoe got hurt while I was in San Francisco, so I had to deal with all kind of issues. Poor Zoe, I just want to hang out with her.

Actually it's quite impressive how sensitive dogs or animal in general are. Zoe is really needy now. She wants me to massage her and pet her and just give her attention, otherwise she cries. She is never been a needy, pet dog...On the contrary she is very independent.

Anyway, I just wanted to share a picture of a dress that I bought in San Francisco at H&M. It's perfect for pregnant women and also for work. I was trying to find it online but their site kind of suck. You have to look through more than 14 pages to even find something similar to what they sell in the store. Everything looks the same on their site. I wish you could search by price and color. I also can't stand when the site of a store like H&M or Zara does not carry the same items of their physical stores. I feel you always get second hand clothes and fashion online.

FASHION PREGNANCY BLOGS I ENJOY:

I have mentioned this blog before, but it is pretty good. It's called Bump and Me. Despite been on the commercial side, their content is really interesting and fresh. I always want to read at least two of other stories, just because I really don't know anything about pregnancy in general.

The Day Book Blog had a special on pregnancy and great ideas on how to accentuate the belly and be stylish.

Hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Gin

It is official. I am having a girl!!

I went to see the doctor probably sometimes in March and he said there was an 80% probability of having a girl, but that they usually wait until the 18th week. The way they can tell is by taking an ultrasound and looking at the end of the belly. There should be a white line. If this line is straight and in line with the belly you are having a girl, if it is up, it’s a boy.

I also took the baking soda test, which is supposed to predict the sex of your baby. Take a plastic cup and pee in it. Take 2 spoons of baking soda. Place them in the cup. If it frizzes it is a boy, if it does not do anything it’s a girl. Mine frizzed just a little and created a foam….So I think this test is not very accurate. LOL

I officially started the baby registry and working on the baby room. I need help. Seriously, I have no idea what you need for a baby and when I try to choose a baby tub I get overwhelmed by the choice and reviews of people and whether it's organic or not. I am however very disappointed by the lack of organic products for babies. I am selecting my registry based on availability of organic products and yet it's so limited. All this plastic crap can't be good. And what the heck are onesies or rocker or playgrounds?

FASHION and PREGNANCY
I have been wearing many dresses, mostly maxi dresses. I just found out that Piperlime has a large selection of maxi dresses for under $50. If you are pregnant you should check them out.

To tell you the truth I am still wearing most of my regular dresses. The only thing I stopped wearing is pants and you all know my old bras. But I am only 18th weeks so I can only imagine what will happen to me at 38 weeks.
