Emerging Italian Designer Not to Miss: On And On Silvia Di Grazia

Fashion For Real People is happy to announces the launch of a new program, which highlights emerging designers from all around the world. These designers are fresh and counter-trend and we love them.

We start with a very special person. Silvia Di Grazia is from Lucca, Italy (my hometown) and has really blossomed into the fashion industry moving to Milan, fashion capital of Italy. Her brand On and On reflects a dynamic millennial generation, full of personality, redefining what fashion is and not been dictated by what media tell individuals what fashion should be.

Below you will find a detailed interview as well as information on where to shop for her line. Please share and comment. [Interview also in Italian].

Who is the designer: Silvia di Grazia
Label: On And On
A. What or who inspired you to become a fashion designer?

I think it is the fact that we were always going in teh same direction, following trends based on what mass media were showing us, without having a personal identity. I wanted to create a line that was white like a canvas and unique. I also wanted to create pieces that could be mixed with what we have already in our wardrobe, so that we could express our own personality, without been pushed by what looks are trendy.

b. One "Must Have" item for the Fall?

For Fall I think a long maxi skirt (pencil line), with cropped tops and oversize sweatshirts/sweaters: the key i sot mix elegant items with sporty items. Street-wear is back in style. I have seen it on the runaway of top designers, creating a street-wear very elegant, trying to approach an everyday life style....without using complex texture or fabrics. A come back to basic shapes and fabrics.

b. Un 'must have' capo per l'autunno?

c. Where does your Spring Summer 2014 line emerge? Where did you get the inspiration and what type of man or woman fit this line?
For Spring Summer 2014 I got inspiration from the skaters style of the 80-90's. I mixed prints that I believe recall the style and spirit of the 90's like black and white zig zag, graphics on t-shirts and so on. I wanted to create some outfits 'all over the places', all over the boundaries of time and prints. Having so many different prints I kept the shape and forms of the clothes very simple, some from the previous collection since they were hits among the audience.

Creando dei completi all over..  quindi avendo cosi tante fantasie in collezione ho preferito mantenere dei tagli semplici e riprendere capi andati molto bene nelle scorse stagioni.
For the Man line I designed also fun graphics on t-shirts: a come back to the past because I had stopped printing on t-shirts for a while but I decided to do it again this year.

d. What suggestions do you give a woman after 30s? What should she wear or NOT wear?

After 30s we are more secure and comfortable with who we are and our body (I am speaking from the perspective of someone who is 31. Me;). I think we can still pull off everything but we need to be careful in not looking like a wanted be teen. I don't agree with the concept that after 30s we can't wear certain items, with the exclusion of shorts that look like underwear or really low waist pants. But that is for a simple fact that our bodies do not look the same, they are changing and we would just end up looking vulgar. Personally I still have a style very youthful...A woman needs to feel comfortable and that is what it is important. Accessories like jewelry and purses become a staples for this type of woman, to be able to differentiate herself from teens.

From my point of view, I realized I wear jeans less frequently, but I prefer wearing leggings or chinos with blouses, jackets or accessories in denim. It's all about accessories.

e. Where can we buy your awesome clothes in the States or Russia, or everywhere?

BUT for all your fashionistas abroad I just opened an on-line store with clothes from the Fall Winter Collection and other past collections at a discounted price. We ship everywhere. GUEST WRITER HILARY JOHNSON

This week I have the pleasure of introducing our first guest writer to Fashion For The Real People. She used to be a frequent contributor for the old fashion blog. We did a blog together and talk about how not to shop for 91 days. We had to wear a different outfit each day and post each single day. It was not easy. Now she is back and I hope to see more from her on this blog. You can check more about her here on our old blog. Her Name is Hilary.

1. To the Maxi
Maxi dresses exude bohemian freedom and flexibility like no other item of clothing. It’s a fashion one-stop shop, a chance to express your unique personality without the fuss of multiple items. And it can be thrown in a backpack in a heartbeat to set off on whatever next adventure comes along.

But maxi’s and nungas don’t always get along. Make sure to choose a maxi with wider straps (hide the bra that you should be wearing), has a nice deep v to show off your neckline and avoid the dreaded boob shelf, and has a high waistline to keep your torso from turning into a box.

2. High-Wasted

High waisted shorts work for two reasons. One, it pulls in your torso below your bosoms, creating shape instead of the square your ladies lend to. And two, it creates another curve at your hips, turning a nunga tent into a beautiful hourglass.

3. The Cold Shoulder
Showing off your beautiful shoulders only accentuate how awesome big nungas are. It shows the other lines of your body, taking focus off of your gals. And it’s sexy. And demure.

Get a solid strapless bra and throw a tube bra over it to keep it in place for extra support.

4. InVESTed

Vests. They hold you in, give you length, or enhance your shape. And they’re cool. Win win.

5. Go With the Flow

 Photo on We Hear it
Tops that are snug around the bosoms and then flow out from there show your drool-worthy curves without putting it all out for show. And it avoids the frumpy dumpy look that too-flowy tops can achieve when you’re working with a little extra somethin’ up top.
