What is Fashion for Real People?

By Ginevra Adamoli

I had some time to think about this blog and other fashion blogs. While I adore street fashion blogs of many fashionistas, sometimes I still don't feel they portray real life, real people, real fashion for real people. Don't get me wrong, blogs like Atlantic - Pacific inspire me, make me happy, make me dream, make me want to step it up in my fashion world, but at the end of the world, that is just not me, not everyday. For example, I spent the weekend cleaning 2 floors-house because my dog had fleas. I ran to the supermarket like a maniac buying all kind of products and scrubbed the house wearing old denim shorts, yellow gloves and a pin in my hair. I was exhausted. I did not think about running to Publix wearing make up, high heels or a cute dress. I needed something quick, comfortable, and functional.

That to me is fashion for real people: it's reaching a point in which you can blend functionality with an anti flea spray bottle and a semi-cute pair of distressed jeans. In honor of my non-glamouros weekend I wanted to share some pictures of myself in my Sunday comfortable but not pretty outfit. This is me. This is me struggling the hot weather in Florida, walking the dog around the neighborhood, cooking 7 meals for the week, ironing, and taking care of fleas. And this is what I want this blog to be. I want to be able to provide and share tips about fashion and how to be fashionable from real women. I will fail at times. I won't lie. But I want to share the ugliness of trying to reach 50% of fashionable outfits we see in many of these great blogs. Of course dreaming is good too, but I don't want to forget who we really are. I am Gin, I work full time as a digital analyst, I have a fashion blog, and spend my other time reading and writing about food communication, social movements, and social media. Take it or leave it.

The typical Sunday outfit:

Denim shorts // Sisley blue Top 1996s// Sunglasses // Urban Outfitters sandals // Polar watch

Sunday Outfit: no Hair or make up // J.Crew t-shirt // Zara jeans skirt

  1. love this! so true about needing fashion to be functional, as well as stylish and an expression of our inner selves - all at once. if our fashion is only about the most intense style choices we can make, it will lose function for our daily lives and then ceases to be an accurate expression of who we REALly are.
