ARE PANTYHOSE IN or OUT?

You already know how I feel about nude nylons, or pantyhose, or nude hosiery: I can't stand them. You can read more here on top reasons NEVER to wear pantyhose. But it seems that people are interested to know what are the pantyhose trends in 2015 and whether nylons are out of fashion.

But since the topic became one of the top conversations on this blog I decided to provide some not so horrifying choices of nude nylon. I also asked on my Facebook page and Twitter what fans thought about nude hosiery. On top of that I also read few opinions on social media from high designers to fashion bloggers. Here the truth on nude nylons, pantyhose, nude hosiery, etc.

ARE PANTYHOSE IN or OUT in 2015?

According to a survey I conducted on Facebook and Twitter, 98% of respondents indicated that nude pantyhose are a NO. The New York Times published an article launching the come back of nude nylon attributed mostly to Kate from England. The article mentioned many designers who have embraced in the past year the naked feel of pantyhose. You can read the full article here. The number one reason for embracing the look of your grandmother is the effect of wearing nude hosiery - flawless legs ready for a photo shoot or eliminating aging imperfections. Not only that but many women are also wearing medical leggings which can prevent varicose legs and spider veins. At this point it would be interesting to see if big brands and designers like Nike will be able to come up with fashionable nylons that also have medical benefits for aging women or women who spend most of their day on their feet.
Glamour.com discusses the emerging trend of nude hosiery again attributed to the UK sisters (Pippa and Kate) debating whether and when it is ok to wear them. Here more about the article. Like me Tracey Lomrantz Lester has received responses from NOOOOO to "I disagree with your hatred toward nude pantyhose."
Ginger Burr argues that there are solutions to making panty hoses look acceptable and points out that in formal settings like work they are a "must." Here more on her article. So, what do you think? Have you changed your opinion on pantyhose?

  1. I bet that those who hate on nude pantyhose are also those who wear open-toe shoes to work. I am on the side of those who say: yes. There is time and place for a "naked" leg and there is time and place for a "pantyhosed" leg. Nude pantyhose does mask imperfections. Not everyone has perfect legs and age does not play a role. I, for one, just turned 30 but I have plenty of small bruises and veins from straining my legs in sport. They are not excessively visible to those who do not know about them but they are there and I know about them. The job of a pantyhose is not to add color or make you look tan because it will look fake if the rest of your body is pale. Their goal is to give you an airbrushed effect. Pantyhose should be carefully chosen. They need to be of good quality to be comfortable and to look good. I dont wear walmart brand but DKNY. I am glad Kate and Pippa are wearing them. They have great style and wear extremely classy outfits I wish I had.
On a note of tanning: I and many doctors agree it is not healthy. i am also allergic to self tanners so I cannot use them to even out complexion of my legs. In the summer, on a non business attire day and out and about, i will wear knee length skirts without pantyhose but at work and in fall, I will wear pantyhose (nude and warm tights) with my skirts (never shorts). Finally, when it comes to comfort: choose a right pantyhose and you will not even know you wear them. Perhaps those who say pantyhose are not comfortable did not wear the right size or the right quality. It happened to me before but it was a quick fix. Once I found the right size and color, many do not even notice that I wear a pantyhose (on those days when I do wear them).
